How NOT to level up!

Alright, well maybe you're new, and maybe you're excited to see what LoZ has for you... Or maybe you're like me and trying to do it right, smart, and stay under the radar until you have the best gear you can for your level..... Here is Mia's guide to NOT leveling up.

1: OK! you create a new char, get the best gear you can from our Armory (Just remember to donate it back when you're done with it!) But remember, you only have ONE item per week! So, the best idea is to get the Frobozz Goggles, which have +18 defense, or else the Spell book, which give you 2 spells at around +5 ar/dr each to start out with. I prefer the Goggles or the Surprisingly strong Gloves, because I prefer using Low magic.
2: Go to the Dark forest and adventure at WELL below your level until you hit level 5. You can't help but hit level 5, but from here, stopping the level process is easy. Once you complete the AWESOME shirt quest, get your loot, you can buy a decent weapon, armor, or set of spells for yourself... Just pause as soon as you get your loot from the AWESOME quest.
3: If you're anything like me, you still need cards! SO! Go back to the Dark Forest, and adventure at -5 your own level. You still get cards money and loot, but do not get XP. If you monitor your encumbrance, this is also a great way to earn the "He Canna Take Anymore, Captain" trophy for reaching 100% encumbrance. Once you get tired of this, or else earn your Dark Forest Exterminator Trophy, you're probably ready for battle now.
4: See the rules for Battle on our Message boards an Forums if you need more help with Battle. Battling is a way to keep your XP low, and maximize the ZMs earned per Action. At level 5 you are able to win (or lose) about 500 ZMs per Action Point (AP), while adventuring gets you about 40-50. Staying on top of your armor and weapons should be easy at this point, and from here, all your money should be spent on things we CAN'T give you from the armory: Spells, Training from the Drunk in Port Foozle, or Training from the Warrior in Frostham Bases.
5: Group Adventuring... We as a clan are going to become a little more active (I think? I hope?) in finding a way to have Clan-only Group adventures... The details are getting worked out as we speak, but anyways. Always check and make sure you're in a group adventure. This is a great way to earn loot, and minimal XP while you're offline doing whatever else.
6: HOW TO SURVIVE JUST ABOUT ANYTHING!!!!! Put your points in the BODY skill tree, from Thick Skin to Pin Cushion. This will give you more health to work with, more health means better chances in Battle, longer stretches in the Adventuring feild, fewer trips back to Base, which saves you APs. All in all, even if you plan on going down the Spirit Tree or Mind Tree, make sure your first few points are in BODY to get that extra health.

OK! That should keep you low enough level that you will be able to earn your keep in Battle instead of relying on Questing to level you up. This will increase your fame, get you more familiar with PvP, and also, hook you up on the Trophies. When you hit level 8, adventure White Cliffs at -5 to get the Exterminator Trophy without levelling up. Also keeping yourself in a group will allow you to earn the Advance Together Trophy at some point, as well as the extra $$ you get.

That's great advice, Ayistromia, and I wish I had read it before! Fortunately I've at least maxed out the Body stuff you had mentioned, but yeah I'll have to go for some of those trophies and building up the ZM's before I keep leveling up like I have.

I've got the Aimfiz Charm so I've been adventuring at +3 over my level, getting bigger cash and XP payouts, while being able to run back to base almost after every fight without penalty. But the PvP and Group Adventures will be better ways to get ZM it sounds like.

Battles will get you MUCH more. at level 32 I make 3200 per AP spent. but you make dirt XP

OK, the point to this guide is how to NOT level up, and how to still gain cards, cash and trophies.

By far the best bet is BATTLE for $$ but we all know we need the cards to make our weapons and armor worth the while! So.

Go for those Exterminator trophies! See what kind of trophies you can get in battle!! All in all, just see what is available to lowbies while you still have the chance! Once you get a couple REALLY good weapons and REALLY good armor, you're pretty much set to adventure to level 15. I would keep doing battle until you can't help but level... then do the Pooky Quest, then go back to battle... OH WAIT! THAT'S WHAT I'M DOING!

BUT be sure that when you spend your extra loot and gains that you get in battle or from adventuring (basically for free) you buy SPELLS AND TRAINING! We here at the FL cannot buy these for you, or donate our old ones to you. This you gotta do yourself. We are a clan, we try and help those who are trying to help themselves. So bear with us while we sift and sort and wait for donations and all that.

Dude I wish I had learned this BEFORE! I'm at 13, I've done the pooky quest. I've got the gloves, I've got the body things and my armor It's the best I could afford. I feel I'm still trying to figure it all out.

I just know exploring and fighting at my own level I can barely win. Though I'm up a bit high I'm going to try and slow things down a bit, go back and get some of those trophies, and get better cards because mine like suck.

You don't have to slow down unless you want to. There's nothing wrong with leveling quickly, SO LONG AS YOU DO IT RIGHT! Otherwise, yes, slow down and DEFINITELY follow Mia's guide. It's perfect for the person who maybe has found themselves leveled up and still losing quite a bit. Level doesn't do much for you without proper preparation.

Late in reply but I totally have read the posts. I'm good with battle and racking in the zorkmids but when it comes to exploring I'm still weak. I've got my card at the best they can be 28 gambit. I almost have enough to purchase numbness. Then I'm going exploring for more cards following that up with getting myself into some better gear. I don't want to advance much further till I have my AP/DP up a bit higher.

I recently made a character that was for battles. I did a group adventure and gor 5k exp the first day. Leveled me right up. I would caution people about group aventuring because it could make you level up much quicker then you expect.
